This villa, built over 40 years ago, carries within it generations of stories — laughter, gatherings, and cherished memories. When the owners’ son approached us to reimagine the interiors, his vision was clear: to breathe new life into a quiet, aging home and transform it into a bright, timeless sanctuary where family could reconnect.
Honoring the Past, Designing for Connection
The original layout felt heavy and compartmentalized. Dark wood finishes, ornate railings, and enclosed rooms limited light and flow. While the double-height space at the center had architectural potential, it lacked warmth and integration with the rest of the home.
Our design approach focused on lightness, openness, and unity. We opened up surrounding living areas onto the double-height central lounge — turning it into a true Heart of the Home, where all paths naturally converge.
Light, Transparency, and Architectural Grace
A sculptural staircase, now framed by minimal glass balustrades, anchors the space — drawing the eye upward and creating a sense of lightness and transparency between levels. The glass replaces the once heavy railings, allowing the staircase to feel more open, architectural, and connected to its surroundings.
The space is defined by a serene mix of soft forms, a neutral palette, and natural textures, creating a sense of calm and cohesion that invites gathering and quiet reflection alike. The once solid staircase wall has been reimagined as a curated, open library — blending architectural beauty with everyday function.
Where Light Shapes Atmosphere
Expanded windows and wall openings allow daylight to pour in throughout the day, while by night, a cluster of eighteen delicate pendant lights casts a soft, ambient glow, creating a mood that feels both grounding and ethereal.
Connected Living, Seamless Flow
The dining area now opened up onto the double-height lounge, creating an expansive zone for gathering and celebration. At its heart, a custom dining table for twelve invites conversation and shared meals. A discreet pocket door separates the formal living and dining spaces, offering flexibility — privacy when needed, openness when desired.
The Kitchen: A Space for Everyday Moments
Once closed off and dimly lit, the kitchen is now one of the most loved spaces in the home. Reimagined with soft tones, clean lines, and warm lighting, it balances function with comfort. An additional pantry enhances storage and workflow, while the open-plan layout encourages moments of everyday togetherness — from morning coffees to late-night chats.
A Home Reborn in Light and Life
What was once dark and divided is now bright, fluid, and alive again — a home that feels renewed in spirit and design. It’s no longer just a house from the past, but a timeless space where family gathers once more, surrounded by light, comfort, and memories made anew.
